Dehradun based university, UPES, recently conducted a day-long training program for teachers of 21st century in the city. More than 30 principals, vice principals, head of departments and senior teachers from top 15 schools of Meerut city were trained in new methods of teaching students of the digital world. The teachers were also given training in self-development.
Mrs. Raj Bala Jain, Vice Principal of Rishabh Academy in Meerut, said, “As teachers we need to be fully confident about ourselves and our subjects. We also need to understand the nature, behavior and interest of the students in different subjects. Only then we can guide them for their future. This training program by UPES will help me in developing skills in my students which are needed in the 21st century”.
This training by UPES was complimentary to the teachers as the University considers them important partners in developing today’s generation for their bright and successful future. Teachers from top schools like Army Public School, Shanti Niketan Vidyapeeth, K.L International School, St. Xaviers World School, Millennium Public School and others were benefitted from this program.
Talking about the initiative, UPES spokesperson said, “Leap is a unique training program for teachers of 21st century. We have created this program keeping in mind the Draft Education Policy 2019. Today’s students will face new and unknown challenges in their professional lives. Our teachers need to be trained in the right ways to prepare the students and develop right skills in them. Through this program we want to involve school teachers and principals in addressing the issue of unemployment and create a bright future for today’s generation”.
According to a EY report on ‘Future of Work in 2022’, there will be 9% absolutely new jobs and 37% jobs will require new skills. In such a scenario, students need to be trained in problem-solving, creativity and critical thinking from a young age.UPES will organize similar training programs in other cities of India, impacting lives of hundreds of teachers and lakhs of students.
