Mercure Hyderabad KCP launches Solar Energy Initiative

Mercure Hyderabad KCP has inaugurated a Solar Hot Water System under Planet 21 initiative at the Hotel an initiative towards sustainable development. The installation of the solar Hot water system is a step towards producing renewable power and protecting the environment.

The hotel has installed the solar panels across a 98 square-meter space on the rooftop, generating 10KL of water per day, to power a solar water heating requirements of its entire 128 rooms. The solar panels will generate 30KW power per hour reducing dependence on conventional energy sources and maximizing use of solar to take care of hotel requirements. This step will help in controlling the global warming and the risk of the short circuit is also reduced to minimal.

Mercure Hyderabad KCP commissions Solar Hot Water System - Mercure TeamThe solar hot water system will reduce the hot water energy consumption and will save approximately 180 units per day, which equals to the average cost savings of Rs. 5, 66,000 per year. This step was taken as a part of Planet 21 program.

PLANET 21 as a program focuses on the need to protect the planet, the people and the environment. It includes 21 commitments towards nature, health, energy and more. Every 21st of April, Accor’s employees around the globe join together and organize actions to support the Planet 21 program. This year Mercure has launched the solar power plant as a part of the Planet 21 initiative.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dinesh Rai, General Manager, Mercure Hyderabad KCP said “At Mercure Hyderabad KCP we are committed for the sustainable growth and development of the planet. This initiative is s step to reduce our carbon foot prints and become energy efficient. With the installation of solar hot water system we will reduce our dependence on conventional power sources and switch to renewable sources. We are happy to install the solar hot water system at our hotel under PLANET 21 program.”

Moreover, Mercure Hyderabad KCP has taken a few more steps to save the eco-system and is planning to set up a bio gas plant soon which will recycle the waste produced at the property and use as fuel in the kitchen.
