India is facing an acute shortage of organ donors due to the pervasiveness of myths and superstitions. According to a report by World Health Organization (WHO), only about 0.01% in India donate their organs after death, while in Western countries around 70-80% of the people pledge their organs.
Organ donation is a noble act and to help the people who are seeking for organs, Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan, in partnership with National Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) will be organizing an Organ Donation Awareness and Drive on January 18, 2017 at 11 am in their premises.
National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) is a National level organization set up under Directorate General of Health Services, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India.
The event will start off with an awareness session conducted by Dr. Prof. Vimal Bhandari, Director, National Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (NOTTO) followed by donors enrolling themselves for this noble cause.
We are well aware that several lives are lost every minute due to the lack of the proper availability of healthy organs at an instant. “Committing to be an organ donor is about keeping humanity alive, a decision that keeps one alive even after death. It is a decision that will save many lives, give someone a second chance… maybe someone you know or care for…. I will be committing to be an organ donor, will you?†asks Nasir Shaikh, General Manager, Courtyard by Marriott Pune Chakan. Organ donation can literally give someone a second chance at life. Come, be a part of this life saving initiative.
