Coinciding with the recently launched ‘Fit India Campaign’ by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, Amity University Gurugram commenced a month long sports extravaganza on 2nd Sep 2019 and concluded the 21st SANGATHAN 2019 on 16th Oct, 2019. Sangathan means union, unity and consolidation. True to its meaning Sangathan conducted at Amity University embodies the spirit of competition, fair play and achievement.
Sangathan is annual Sports Meet of Amity group dating back to 1998. It is the brain child of our visionary, Founder President, Dr Ashok K Chauhan. Sangathan provides a unique opportunity wherein students of all Amity Campuses from across the country and abroad showcase their talent and skills, competence and. Sports and cultural events conducted over 6 weeks. This event greatly helps in developing multi-faceted qualities, and virtues among them. This would tremendously lead to developing their overall personality and resulting in their faster career growth in times to come.
In keeping with the indomitable spirit of Amitians, the Founder’s Day is celebrated to honor the dynamic leadership and unfathomable achievements of the Founder President of the Amity Group of Institutions, Dr. Ashok K Chauhan. Sangathan is celebrated at two levels. At the first level, sports competitions are held at each Amity University Campus as ‘Inter Institutional Sports Meet’. At the second level, a mega Sangathan event is held at Amity University Uttar Pradesh at Noida on 24th October, whereby all Amity National and International Campuses come together in unison to participate and compete in a plethora of sports events.
The grandeur of Sangathan 2019 has reached a new high with our students ceasing the opportunity to compete in as many as 40 sports events including badminton, basketball, volleyball, karate, cricket, chess, tug of war etc. to bag their much coveted trophies. The event represents courage, discipline, and unyielding determination, these being the driving force behind any sporting event. It epitomizes the ideals that Amity as a group of institutions has always upheld. The event commenced on 2nd September 2019 with the lighting of the Sangathan flame and march past followed by sports competitions and cultural events.
The Chief Guest of the occasion Dr Aseem Chauhan, Chancellor, Amity University Gurugram in his address to the students stated that “Amity University is unique in many ways. In Amity tradition blends with modernity. The values that are taught in Amity help our students to take on the challenges of adult life with a sense of responsibility and commitment”
While motivating the students, the Vice Chancellor of Amity University Gurugram Dr. P B Sharma said “A bright and progressive India can only be created on the foundation of youth’s dedication, commitment & integrity. Sports teach us the importance of leadership and discipline.”
Maj Gen G S Bal (Retd), DSW, Amity University Gurugram in his address said, “Sports and games embody a spirit of team work and competitiveness. Sangathan signifies the indomitable spirit of our youth who year after year compete in various events and inculcate sportsman spirit and a will to perform and achieve.”
Sahil, Winner of Best Athlete award while receiving the trophy said, “It is a great achievement, and I worked really hard to get this award. I am also preparing for university games, so I am hoping for the best.”
During the month long event the students achievers were felicitated with Gold & Silver and Trophies. The team of Amity School of Engineering and Technology (ASET) + Amity Institute of Biotechnology + Amity School of Communication + Amity School of Hospitality lifted the Overall Sangathan Team Trophy with 20 Gold Medals & 10 Silver with total of 125 points in their kitty.
The team of Amity School of Applied Science + Amity Institute of Nano Technology + Amity Medical School + Amity School of Environment & Earth Sciences + Amity School of Architecture and Planning + Amity School of Fine Arts + Amity College of Nursing with …. points was awarded the Second Position with 11 Gold medals and 23 Silver medals. The Sangathan Team Championship Trophy in Male category was lifted by ASET and Female category was lifted by Amity Business School. Sahil from Amity Institute of Biotechnology won the Best Athlete Award in the male category and Rishika & Sonali (Joint Winners) took the trophy for Best Athlete Award in the female category.
Sangathan 2019 concluded on 16th October, 2019 marking yet another milestone in the history of various mega events that Amity conducts for the overall development of its students.
