Essel Infra’s Jabalpur Waste to Energy Plant awarded by Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs

Environment sustainability is at the core of Essel Infra’s business philosophy. Recognising this attribute and company’s outstanding work in Waste to Energy (WtE) sector, Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in association with CII has awarded Essel Infra’s Jabalpur WtE Plant as the second best project in integrated MSW-to-Energy category across India.

The award was given by Smt. Maya Singh, Minister, Urban Development & Housing, Govt. of Madhya Pradesh, in an event organized by CII and Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (MoHUA) at Indore. The event was supported by Ministry of Environment, Government of Japan and United Nations Centre for Regional Development.

Essel Infras Jabalpur Waste to Energy Plant - Award 2018 -1The award was constituted by MoHUA in collaboration with CII with objective of rewarding the organizations performing in area of 3R, Waste Management & Recovery, Resource Optimization and Resource Efficiency.

Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Kamal Maheshwari, President – Business Development, Essel Infra said, “We are delighted to receive this prestigious award. It underlines and recognizes our commitment towards environment sustainability. Such recognition positions us as a prominent infrastructure player which constantly focuses on innovations and expertise. These projects generate clean, reliable energy from a renewable fuel source, thus reducing dependence on polluting source of energy.”

Jabalpur WtE is first of its kindprojects and is testimony of not just company’s commitment to deliver sustainable solutions through innovation, but also India’s vision towards contributing to environmental sustainability.

Commissioned in May 2016, the Jabalpur WtE plant has some key differentiators that set it apart from other such plants. It deploys Hitachi Zosen’s customized thermal waste processing solution. Its Grate Combustion System deployed is the best waste treatment technology in the world with regards to environment friendliness, operating reliability, flexibility and cost-effectiveness.

The other salient features include Flue Gas Treatment and water and ash treatment, which ensures that all the waste generates as part of the processes are also treated before emission. The emissions are at par with European standards which are more environment friendly as compared to SWM Rule Book 2016.

The plant generates 11.5 MW energy by recycling 600 tons of municipal solid waste per day and reducing over 37,000 tons of carbon emission for Jabalpur annually.
