GEM Enviro Management, a Delhi-based packaging & waste management company that provides complete scrap management solutions, proposes to install 100 Reverse Vending Machines (RVMs) across Delhi NCR starting with 10 in Gurgaon. This initiative is part of its pilot project to create more awareness about plastic waste management across India. The progressive drive will encourage people to extend their support towards Swachh Bharat Abhiyan by depositing plastic bottles in these machines.
Additionally, all those who deposit plastic waste will get an incentive of Re 1/- per plastic bottle. Through this innovative approach, GEM Enviro hopes to promote segregation of waste by collecting materials that can be recycled for future use.
Commenting on the initiative, Sachin Sharma, CEO, GEM Enviro Management said, “As a progressive waste management company, we always strive to work towards providing solutions like collection of post-consumer PET scrap, which can help in conserving the environment in the long run. By setting up these RVMs across Gurgaon, we are taking the first step towards attaining a system for ethical waste management that can be gradually utilized across India in future. We are confident that this project will promote recycling of plastic waste, and encourage more people to come forward and do their bit for the environment.â€
GEM Enviro Management will be installing the RVMs at places like residential societies, malls, and other areas that are most frequented by consumers. Those who deposit plastic waste will win freebies or cash as reward. Furthermore, all recycled products will be sold under GEM’s ‘Being Responsible’ brand in the retail market.
In the next couple of years, GEM Enviro hopes to develop an all India system for collection of post-consumer PET scrap via RVMs. It is also lobbying with several stakeholders to introduce Rupee Deposit Scheme which incorporates the design of container deposit scheme more commonly seen abroad.
