Ascott India & UNHCR organise Vintage Car Rally in Chennai

The Ascott Limited (Ascott) organized a Vintage Car Rally in the city on Sunday, 8 November 2020. The event was organised in association with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the UN Refugee Agency and Historical Cars Association of India. The car rally was organised in support of refugee welfare and highlight the role of the communities hosting them.

The event began with a display of the classic cars at Citadines OMR Chennai, Ascott’s apart’hotel located in Sholinganallur. Over 15 classic cars including Cadillacs, Mustangs, Jaguars and Mercedes’ were on display, with some vintage car owners arriving from Bangalore and Goa to participate in the event. The car rally was flagged off by Ms Karin Stoll, Consulate General of Germany in Chennai and Mr Nitirooge Phoneprasert, Consulate-General of Thailand in Chennai. The vintage cars proceeded towards the city centre and the rally culminated at Somerset Greenways Chennai, Ascott’s serviced residence in MRC Nagar.

Ms Supriya Malhotra, Ascott’s Area General Manager for Chennai, said: “We are excited to partner with UNHCR and the diplomatic community in Chennai to host this event this year. We hope this paves the way for more such collaborations in the future.”

The event saw a remarkable turnout of vintage car enthusiasts and key members of Chennai’s diplomatic community.
