Restaurant Review – Eating Circles – Vegetarian Tiffin Centre – Alwarpet, Chennai

Went to a restaurant called Eating Circles in CP Ramaswamy Road, RA Puram. It serves Karnataka tiffin items. It was a good experience but more than that these people are trying something different and and at the same time focussed.

Dosa-at-Eating-Circles-Alwarpet-ChennaiIn Bangalore there are many tiffin centres. Most of the places have few seats. There are many tables in which we need to stand and eat. This seems very useful to morning office goers, economical food without sending much time.

Eating Circle has 2 outlets – Kilpauk and Alwarpet.

Niche: They serve authentic Karnataka tiffin items in Chennai. Think some of the people who work here are from Karnataka. Food is good. Place is clean, neat and simplistic.

Target audience: Middle to upper middle income vegetarians. Pricing is not cheap nor is it very costly.

Process: Simple but effective. We order and pay upfront. Need to give the token in the counter and food gets served in the seat. Waiting time is very less.

Eating-Circles-Alwarpet-MenuSeating: Minimilistic decor. Few tables with chairs. The 4 walls have tables attached to them and with plasic seats . So most of the diners will be facing the wall. Nobody seems to mind that though. People come here more for the food than for the ambience.

Menu: Ultra minimalistic. These guys really make it simple. Most of the old restaurants will cringe at the menue.I was really blown away by the FOCUS. Instead of being scattered, they focus on few items and execute it well.

Quality: Food is good. An open kitchen in South Indian restaurant is new (at least for me).

Location: It is placed in the 1st floor. Nowadays few risk takers do opt out of the expensive ground floors. Many people do concentrate on the decor and being in the ground floor than on the food.

Eating Circle is only 2 years old. But they are fresh in their thinking and approach.

BTW Eating Circles belongs to the 22 year old Aashruth Rangarajan. He is the son of the popular motivational speaker Mahatria Ra (T.T.Rangarajan)
