தருமை ஆதீனம் வேளூர் ஸ்ரீவைத்தியநாதசுவாமி தேவஸ்தானம், வைத்தீஸ்வரன்கோயில்.

Vaithiswarankoil is a popular place of pilgrimage in South India. According to tradition the place is known as Pullirukkuvelur (pul-bird-Jatayu, Irukku-Rigveda, Vel-Murugan, oor-Sun). All these four offered their worship here. The place also goes by the names – Jatayupuri, Vedapuri, Angarakapuram and many more, but people familiarly call it Vinaitheerthankoil and Thayyalnayaki koil.

The Sthala Vriksham is Vembu (Margosa). The beautiful tank goes by the name Siddhamirtha Theertham. The Jadayukundam of Ramayana fame is in the Southern Praharam of this temple. This place is Angaraka Kshetram. Vaithianathaswamy is curer of all diseases and he is said to cure 4448 diseases with Amritha Sanjeevi and Vilvathadi Mann (soil). The Goddess Thayyalnayaki is said to accompany him with the Holy oil-vessel. Nethrapidi sandhanam and Thiruchandu Urundai are two of the prasadams which are believed to cure all ailments. Sri Selva Muthukumaraswamy (Lord Murugan) attracts attention of one and all who visit this place. One sees Pallava Art such as Yali Pillars.

Thirugnanasambandar, Thirunavukarasar and Arunagirinathar have sung in praise of the lord. Devotees deposit salt and pepper also in front of the goddess (Amman) sannathi. The temple at Vaitheeswarankoil promises to cure all the ills of the body, mind and spirit of every devotee. Angaraka was cured of his leprosy when he took bath in this Siddhamirtha Theertham. By reason of the anathema pronounced by Saint Sadananda, the tank is free of snakes and frogs. It is so till today.

The temple tree was Kadama during the Kritayuga, Bilva during the Tretayouga, Vakula during Dwaparayuga and in the Kaliyuga it is Neem.

ஸ்தல வரலாறு: ஸ்ரீவைத்தியநாதசுவாமி தேவஸ்தானம் தருமை ஆதீனத்தின் அருளாட்சிக்குட்பட்ட இருபத்தேழு திருக்கோயில்களுள் முதன்மையானது. இறைவன் அருள் சுரக்கும் அருள் தானங்கள் தாம் பிரார்த்தனைத் தலங்கள் எனப்பெறும். வைத்தீஸ்வரன்கோயில் சிறந்த பிரார்த்தனைதலம்.புள்-சடாயு என்ற பறவையும், இருக்கு-இருக்கு என்ற வேதமும் , வேள் – முருகப்பெருமானும், ஊர் – சூரியனும் இறைவனை வழிபட்டு அருள்பெற்ற காரணத்தால், இத்தலப்பெயர் புள்ளிருக்குவேளூர் எனப்பெற்றது. திருஞானசம்பந்தர், திருநாவுக்கரசர் ஆகியோர் அருளிய தேவாரப் பாடல்களைப்பெற்ற சிறப்புடையது.
