The centennial year of the Mahatma ‘changing his attire to dhoti’ was celebrated on 22, September.
Commemorating this occasion, Ramraj Cotton organised a grand event ‘Dhoti 100’ at Tirupur. 100 martyrs and 100 weavers were honoured and 100 saplings were planted on the occasion. Dancers from Kalakshetra Foundation, Chennai, performed a traditional dance drama on ‘Gandhiya Vazhiyil RamRaj’.
The event was inaugurated by Mr. K.R. Nagarajan, Managing Director of Ramraj Cotton. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. K.R. Nagarajan said “we have transformed the ‘Attire of the Mahatma’ into a symbol of our ‘National Attire and Identity’ and have constantly reinvented the ‘Dhoti’ to inspire the ‘Young India’ with innovative, easy and comfortable dhoties that now mirror as a style statement and a pride wear of India.”
Mr. K.R. Nagarajan also said “pursuing our mission we are passionately and consciously enriching the lives of 40,000 weavers by keeping the ‘wheel of excellence’ continuously spinning a world of fashion brands for 40 eventful years.
On this memorable occasion a book on “Mahatmaavai Kondaduvom” was released by the Chief Guest of the function, Dr. B.K. Krishnaraj Vanavarayar, Chairman, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan, Coimbatore. The first copy of book was received by Mr. K. Ramasamy, Chairman, Roots Group of Companies, Coimbatore.
