Depicting the epic tale of the Mahabharat, &TV’s Paramavatar Shri Krishna is all set to introduce the character of Shakuni to be essayed by eminent actor, Sooraj Thapar. Often experimental with his choice of roles and genres, Sooraj was last seen essaying the evil character of Bhadrakal in &TV’s fantasy show, Vikram Betaal ki Rahasya Gatha. Now the actor is all set to add another feather to his cap, with the portrayal of one of the most villainous masterminds behind the Kurukshetra war, Shakuni
Known to have poisoned Duryodhana’s mind into instigating an epic war with the Pandavas, Shakuni is an iconic character depicted in the various renditions on the Indian television. While several actors might have aced essaying this character, Gufi Paintal’s own style, strong expressions, and dialogue delivery set a benchmark for other actors to follow. He has been, in a way, the quintessential Shakuni of the Indian television.
Talking about yet another interpretation of this iconic character on Indian television, Sooraj said, “Paintal’s portrayal of Shakuni definitely etched itself forever in the audience’s minds. Every actor has its own way of interpreting a certain character and I do hope that I am able to do justice to this role. The biggest challenge for me will be to set a new benchmark and create a memorable performance to resonate with the audience with a new face of Shakuni on Indian television. With different renditions of the Mahabharata being written, I feel it’s time that the audience gets to engage with a different perspective on the character. I am excited as well as equally nervous to bring back this iconic character to life once again. It has been a complete rollercoaster ride and I am leaving no stone unturned to put in my best foot forward. I feel immensely blessed to play a major part in narrating this tale and hope to enlighten the audience with deeper and intriguing details of the story.”
