Young Indian designers are coming up with incredible ideas. And it’s not just limited to concepts. They are proving so through the execution of their ideas.
Mithi Kalra, a recent pass out from the National Institute of Fashion Technology has recently launched Disney Princess collection amalgamated with Madhubani Art. Dresses, gowns suited for a Princess, based on the traditional art of Madhubani, hand embroidered on pure silks and organza.
MadhubaniPainting is done with fingers, twigs, brushes, nib-pens, and matchsticks, using natural dyes and pigments, and is characterized by eye-catching geometrical patterns. The origin of Madhubani paintings lies in the past when the womenfolk of the village drew the paintings on the walls of their home, as an illustration of their thoughts, hopes and dreams.
The collection wonderfully combines the grace of a bygone era, with the modern day fashion. All the gowns have been hand-painted carving out Madhubani out of Disney princesses’ style.
Speaking on the idea Mithi Kalra says,“Disney is every child’s dream and every girl relates to Disney and its princesses and imagines oneself in some or the other story. I was inspired from the art form of madhubani from a very early age in my life so I thought why not combine best from both the worlds,â€
The opulent princess gowns in pastel light shades looks elegant and the combination came out as a hit. Mithi Kalra aims at producing dresses that do not compromise in quality but reasonable, wearable and from our heritage; at the same time. To do more fashion shows and making more beautiful dresses is what she is looking for in the coming time.
