Paras Bliss Hospital, Panchkula conducts free health checkup camp for visually impaired in Chandigarh

Regular health checkups are important to keep diseases and health issues at bay. While regular screenings can prevent occurrence of any diseases, they also help in early diagnosis and important for people with deformity or disability. However, in India, rate of regular health check up is abysmally low and situation worsens when it comes to people with physical or mental impairment.

Taking the gap into account, Paras Bliss Hospital for Mother & Child, Panchkula conducted a four hour long free health checkup camp at a Blind school in Chandigarh to draw the attention of visually impaired people towards their own health issues and to educate them about the need of maintaining overall health. The team of experts and doctors comprising of Dr. Harpreet Kaur Isher, Consultant, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Dr. Akshay Mehta, Consultant, Neonatology, Dr. Alpi Behl, Sr. Consultant, Dental and Dr. Neha Gill Consultant,  Physiotherapist, Paras Bliss Hospital, Panchkula also educated the masses about the importance of health, ways to maintain a healthy lifestyle and methods to prevent various diseases.

Disability of any kind affects the lifestyle and mentality. Likewise, visual impairment too tends to depreciate the quality and productivity of life. In most of the cases, visual impairment also effects other sensory, motor, or learning impairments with or without chronic disease. Hence, visually impaired people have higher risk for health problems when compared with people without the disability.

“India is very negligent about the concept of regular health checkups. While lack of awareness about the importance of routine checkups is one of prime reasons for low rate of routine health checkup, cost attached to the screenings and diagnoses discourage many people to follow the concept. The condition is bad when it comes to people with disability.

In case of visual impairment, the disability further tends to effects other senses as well that further decreases the quality of life. Hence, the organized free camp is aimed to primarily benefit the visually impaired people by providing with effective consultation and support for all general heath related issues such as Paediatrics, Gynaecology, Dental and Physiotherapy,”said Dr Rishi Mangat, Centre Head, Paras Bliss Hospital.

Starting at 9am, the camp attracted 100 visually impaired participants from all age groups who gained knowledge about the importance of health and risk of diseases they are likely to be prone of. The camp helped people shun away their myths and misconception regarding modern healthcare and encouraged them to follow a healthy lifestyle to improve their eye health as well.
