    Bharti Airtel (\u00e2\u20ac\u0153Airtel\u00e2\u20ac\u009d), India\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s largest telecommunications services provider, today became the first operator to launch 4G services in the country\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s northern frontier of Ladakh region. Customers in 130 towns and villages, including Kargil, Leh, and Dras, will now be able to enjoy affordable high speed data services and get on to the digital superhighway.<\/p>\n

    The rollout, which is part of Project Leap \u00e2\u20ac\u201c Airtel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s network transformation initiative, is a testament to the company\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s network execution capabilities. Airtel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s network teams and partners have overcome the challenge of extremely difficult terrain and harsh weather conditions, including sub-zero temperatures, to deploy a state-of-the-art 4G network in the region. To give a perspective, Dras, located in Kargil District and considered as the gateway to Ladakh, is the coldest inhabited place in India and the second coldest in the world.<\/p>\n

    Besides empowering the local population, Airtel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s 4G deployment will also ensure that tourists visiting the region stay connected to high speed data services. Kargil War Memorial, Sangam, Magnetic Hill, Shanti Stupa, Leh Palace, Thiksey Monastery, Alchi Monastery, \u00c2\u00a0Lamayuru Monastery, Moon Land Lamayuru, Sakti towards pangong Lake, Stok Palace and Hall of Fame are amongst the several popular spots now covered by Airtel 4G.<\/p>\n

    Under the Project Leap initiative, Airtel\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s nationwide 4G footprint now spans Ladakh in the North to Kanyakumari in the South and Tawang in the East to Kutch in the West. Airtel has committed over Rs 60,000 crores of investment for the initiative. Airtel launched India\u00e2\u20ac\u2122s first 4G service in 2012 in Kolkata.<\/p>\n
