Measles is a highly infectious disease caused by virus.\u00c2\u00a0It is estimated that nearly 49,000 children die from post-measles complications annually, making it one of the leading causes of child deaths in the country. The disease can be prevented by immunizing children with measles vaccine, which is safe and effective.<\/p>\n

Rubella is an equally infectious yet mild viral illness affecting both children and adults. Rubella infection when acquired in the first trimester of pregnancy can cause congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) leading to spontaneous abortions, stillbirths and babies born with serious multi-organ congenital anomalies, including blindness and deafness, etc. causing a life full of disabilities.<\/p>\n

\"MeaslesNearly 30,000 annual incidences of congenital rubella syndrome (CRS) are reported across the country. This can be completely preventable with rubella vaccine (as MR vaccine) having > 95% efficacy.<\/p>\n

Keeping this in mind\u00c2\u00a0Columbia Asia Referral Hospital, Yeshwanthpur<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0in association with \u00e2\u20ac\u02dc\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Government of Karnataka,\u00c2\u00a0The United Nations Children’s Fund\u00c2\u00a0(UNICEF), World Health Organization (WHO),\u00c2\u00a0Indian Academy of Pediatrics (IAP) &\u00c2\u00a0Bangalore Medical College (BMC)\u00e2\u20ac\u009d<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0conducted the\u00c2\u00a0\u00e2\u20ac\u02dc\u00e2\u20ac\u2122Measles & Rubella Campaign\u00e2\u20ac\u2122\u00e2\u20ac\u2122<\/strong>\u00c2\u00a0on 9th<\/sup>\u00c2\u00a0February 2017, Thursday at the hospital\u00c2\u00a0<\/strong>to create awareness among\u00c2\u00a0external referring paediatricians and general physicians.<\/p>\n

\u00e2\u20ac\u0153There has been a rise in the number of cases reported on\u00c2\u00a0Measles and Rubella. Thus, creating an awareness about the topic is the need of the hour. Getting children and adults vaccinated early can play a major role in preventing the disease.
