Recently, at the commemoration of the 50th<\/sup>\u00a0year of\u00a0Population Foundation of India,\u00a0<\/strong>eminent industrialist and\u00a0Tata Group Chairman Emeritus Mr. Ratan Tata<\/strong>\u00a0highlighted the role of India\u2019s youth in accelerating economic growth and the importance of investing in their education, health and well-being.<\/p>\n

Speaking at this event,\u00a0Mr. Tata<\/strong>\u00a0said, \u201cThere is no doubt that the future of India will be driven by the young population of more than 370 million people. If we are to meet our commitments to achieve population stabilization and contribute to the national aspirations of the $5 Trillion economy by 2024, we must focus and invest in the young citizens of the future.<\/em>\u201d<\/p>\n

The visionary industrialist emphasized on the need to create employment opportunities for the youth as well as address the issue of gender discrimination that denies women equal opportunities in every sphere.<\/p>\n

He urged citizens and the government to work together to ensure a better future for the country.<\/p>\n

Mr. Tata felicitated Dr. Rani Bang and Dr. Abhay Bang with the first JRD Tata Award for Excellence in Public Service instituted to commemorate Population Foundation of India\u2019s 50th<\/sup>\u00a0year. He congratulated them for their pioneering research and contribution to promoting the well-being of communities and public health.<\/p>\n

The Bangs dedicated the award to the people of Gadchiroli in Maharashtra.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe also dedicate this award to our co-workers who inspire and enable our work<\/em>,\u201d\u00a0Dr.\u00a0Ran<\/strong>i Bang<\/strong>\u00a0said.<\/p>\n

Speaking of their vision for public health in India,\u00a0Dr. Abhay Bang<\/strong>\u00a0said, \u201cThe Indian word for health is \u2018Swa-stha<\/strong>\u2019, which is being Self-reliant. Hence, our vision is Aarogya-Swaraj which means that people\u2019s health must remain in their hands<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n

Poonam Muttreja, Executive Director of the Population Foundation of India<\/strong>, said, \u201cWe at Population Foundation of India are committed for young people to have the knowledge and resources to make the right choices about their health and well-being, thereby ensuring that they become a powerful driving force of change<\/em>.\u201d<\/p>\n
