What\u2019s new:<\/strong>\u00a0Intel today announced\u00a0the addition of new\u00a0performance-\u00a0and performance-per-dollar-optimized\u00a0processors to\u00a0the\u00a0Intel\u00ae\u00a0Xeon\u00ae\u00a0Scalable platform,\u00a0the industry\u2019s most\u00a0widely deployed\u00a0server platform with\u00a0more than\u00a030 million units sold.\u00a0The addition of these new processors\u00a0targets\u00a0the majority of\u00a0Intel\u2019s mainstream Xeon Scalable\u00a0customers\u00a0across cloud, network and edge.\u202fWith broad availability starting today\u00a0from\u00a0leading\u00a0OxMs, these\u00a0new\u00a02nd<\/sup>-Gen Intel Xeon Scalable\u00a0processors\u00a0reinforce Intel\u2019s data center leadership by providing\u00a0greater performance and performance-per-dollar choices for\u00a0customers.<\/p>\n

\u201cIntel\u2019s data centric platforms offer the broadest market coverage of any server processor platform \u2013 from cloud, through the network, to the intelligent edge,\u201d said Lisa Spelman, corporate vice president and general manager of the Xeon and Memory Group within Intel\u2019s Data Platforms Group.\u00a0 \u201cWorking closely with our customers, we are delivering these new server processors to address their performance and pricing needs across a broad range of markets and workloads.\u201d<\/p>\n

\"2nd-GenThe new 2nd<\/sup>-Gen Intel Xeon Gold processors deliver an average of 1.36x higher performance(1)<\/sup> and 1.42x better performance-per-dollar(1)<\/sup> compared to the 1st<\/sup>-Gen Intel Xeon Gold processors.<\/p>\n

To deliver this level of performance and value, Intel has optimized these new server processors in several areas, including adding more cores, increasing cache sizes or by boosting processor frequency.\u00a0 The new processors, labeled with an \u201cR,\u201d \u201cT,\u201d or \u201cU\u201d suffix, are designed for dual-and single-socket mainstream and entry-level server systems.\u00a0 The addition of more cores and increased cache in these processors are targeted at workloads where capacity-per-server is critical, such as virtualized clouds,\u00a0hyper-converged\u00a0infrastructure (HCI)and\u00a0network function virtualization (NFV).<\/p>\n

Intel also announced today two new processors\u00a0(Intel Xeon Gold 6256 and 6250)\u00a0that\u00a0feature\u00a0the industry\u2019s highest server processor frequency,\u00a0delivering\u00a0a base and turbo frequency up to 3.9 GHz and 4.5 GHz, respectively. These high-frequency processors are optimized for workloads that scale with clock frequency, such as financial trading, simulation & modeling, HPC and databases.<\/p>\n

The new\u00a02nd<\/sup>-gen Intel Xeon Scalable\u00a0processors\u00a0target\u00a0three\u00a0broad\u00a0customer\u00a0use cases:<\/p>\n

Industry-leading\u00a0Frequencies for High-performance Usages:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0New Intel Xeon Gold\u00a06200\u00a0processors deliver up to 4.5 GHz\u00a0processor frequency with\u00a0Intel Turbo Boost Technology\u00a0and\u00a0up to 33% more processor cache, offering customers breakthrough performance for frequency-fueled workloads.<\/li>\n
  2. Enhanced Performance for Mainstream Usages:\u00a0<\/strong>New Intel Xeon Gold 6200R\u00a0and 5200R\u00a0processors deliver built-in value through a combination of higher base and Intel Turbo Boost Technology frequencies, in addition to increased processor cache.<\/li>\n
  3. Increased Value and Capability for Entry-level, Edge, Networking\u00a0and IoT\u00a0Usages:\u00a0<\/strong>New Intel Xeon Gold 6200U, Silver 4200R, Sliver 4210T\u00a0and Bronze 3200R processors deliver increased value for\u00a0single socket\u00a0entry-level servers, as well as\u00a0edge, networking and IoT usages.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Intel\u2019s broad ecosystem partners are taking advantage of the additional Xeon Scalable processor value now.\u00a0Hundreds\u202fof systems featuring the new\u00a02nd<\/sup>-Gen\u00a0Intel Xeon Scalable processors are being offered through leading\u00a0OEMs\u00a0and\u00a0ODMs.\u202fSystems are available today, with more in the coming weeks.<\/p>\n

    With these\u00a0new\u00a0processors,\u00a0Intel continues\u00a0to\u00a0reinforce its data center leadership\u00a0by delivering the performance and value customers require.\u00a0The\u00a02nd<\/sup>-Gen Intel\u00a0Xeon Scalable\u00a0processors\u00a0support the broadest market coverage of any server processor platform.
